Today, the Netherlands remembers its war dead from the occupation by Nazi Germany from 10 May 1940 until 5 May 1945. A two-minute silence will be observed across the country at 8pm (local time) this evening. Whilst the formal surrender of the occupying forces was taken on May 5th, the commemoration always takes place the evening before.
As part of that event, I am listing those from the Isle of Lewis who fell in 1944 and 1945, liberating of the Netherlands from the yoke of Nazism. In fact, it is this sacrifice that wholly underpins my work listing the war dead from Lewis from the two World Wars, and associated historical research - as listed on this blog and other websites.
